Outbound marketing that gets real results is tough going.
Anybody can get a list of potential prospects for a particular domain name and fire off targeted emails.
And when you don’t get a response, you perhaps follow up with another eloquently crafted missive.
Experience over 20 years has shown me that this type of approach gets low percentage results – and your emails can often end up in spam folders. That doesn’t help anyone.
So what’s another strategy?
An email introduction is worth its weight in gold.
When you identify the decision maker (or someone who is close to that person), get onto LinkedIn and see if you have any contacts that may know or be connected to this person.
If you can find such a contact, try and enlist their help in getting an introduction to your prospect. Most people love to help any genuine requests – it is Networking 101.
Here’s an example of successful networking
One of our recent client listings was for the premium geographic domain name Rockingham.com.au.
The City of Rockingham is located about 45 minutes drive south of Perth.
One of our good West Australian friends is Esther Anderson. She is a “networker extraordinaire”!
Amongst other things, she is the Operations Manager of the Western Trade Coast Business Network. She is involved with a lot of businesses in and around Kwinana and Rockingham in WA.
I asked Esther if she knew anyone that might be interested in this premium domain, and she very kindly introduced me by email to the Manager – Strategy, Marketing and Communications of the City of Rockingham.
Cutting a long story short, the trust that was established by this introduction ultimately resulted in a deal being done.
The City of Rockingham is very happy to have the domain, and our client is equally happy! A brilliant result all round.
Thank you Esther – a big shout out to you.
